Operation Heart Salutes

heart

From December 2, 2008 until December 31, 2008, the Franklin Lakes Public Library sponsored a community project called Operation Heart Salutes. The Library provided craft materials and work space so that visitors could create Valentine’s Day cards to be sent to troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

VFW Post 5702 members, as well as representatives from VFW District 2 were pleased to be part of the launch party for the project. Post 5702 was also there at the end of the activity by packaging and sending over 500 personalized and handcrafted cards generated by the activity to six different members of the military serving in Iraq. Those members will share the cards with other members of their units.

Post 5702 extends its thanks to the Franklin Lakes Library Staff especially Local History Librarian, Samantha McCoy, Children’s Librarian, Carol Heinz, Bill Gorton and the Peer Leadership Corps from the Franklin Avenue Middle School, as well as members of the community for their efforts to support our troops.

If anyone would like to donate to our 2007/2008 projects it would be very helpful. This year we are raising money for the Fisher House Foundation at Walter Reed Hospital and for The Wounded Warrior Project.
